Harbor Operations

Bath joined with Triton Marine Construction Corporation for the design and construction of a new harbor for berthing of tugs and small watercraft for Naval Facilities Engineering Command (owner) and Naval Station Mayport Harbor Operations (end user) at Mayport, Florida.

The project consisted of a new harbor operations building and a new inner harbor to monitor and control the entrance and exit of ships from this strategic military facility.

This is the Navy’s quickest deploy into deep water in the U.S.  The project included:

  • 165,000 cubic yards of dredging
  • floating dock
  • three-story 21,000 sq.ft. Harbor Operations building
  • night vision CCTV system
  • site utilities (25 kV power, sanitary sewer, lift station, oily water, potable water, and fiber optics)
  • dockside utilities

Specific features included 4,000 lineal feet of bulkhead sheet pile with tiebacks, concrete encapsulation, steel fenders, bollards, and cleats.  Bath also secured environmental and utility permits.

Early in the project arsenic-contaminated soils were discovered. The design/build team worked with the owner and regulatory authorities to develop and implement a solution that ultimately saved the owner several hundred thousand dollars.
