James Johnston, P.E.

Jim is nationally recognized as an expert on the topic of process electrical safety in hazardous locations.

He earned a BSEE degree from the University of Houston in 1974 and is licensed as a Professional Engineer. His knowledge is based on 35 years in the petrochemical and petroleum industries where he designed process safety shutdown systems, performed electrical safety reviews, implemented compliance design solutions, participated in process safety reviews (HAZOPS), and designed field instrumentation application and control systems.

Jim has authored several technical papers on electrical safety in hazardous locations. He has presented technical papers in symposiums and technical conferences throughout the United States. His most notable paper titled "A Common Sense vs. Non Sense Approach to Hazardous Area Classification" received very positive reviews from industry peers and professionals.

His practical approach to the classification and compliance auditing of hazardous areas is unique in industry today. His solutions provide the end user with a complete audit proof set of process safety management documentation.
